Editorial for March......
Well, with Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday gone we are in Lent. All of March is in Lent a period when many people give up one of their pleasures, chocolate, smoking or perhaps alcohol. It’s a good exercise in self discipline.
We also have two Patron Saints in March. St. David’s Day is 1st March when Welsh people celebrate their culture with Welsh cakes, Rarebit, flags and parades. According to legend, in the 6th century, St. David ordered his men to wear leeks on their helmets to distinguish them from their enemies the Saxons.
On the 17th March, the Irish celebrate their Patron Saint, St. Patrick by wearing green and celebrate their heritage with feasts, parades and dancing. St. Patrick brought Christianity to the country in the 5th century. The shamrock represents the Trinity and the resilience of spiritual light over darkness. He died on 17th March.
Events in March include a Beetle Drive at the Cressing Community Church on Saturday 20th and the Events Committee Lunch on Friday 27th. The Knit and Natter Group starts again on Thursday 26th.
We all look forward to the Spring and hopefully less rain.
Betty.
